College of Medicine & Health Sciences of DDU was established with a vision that strives to be the premium choice in the nation, competent in Africa and internationally accredited in the field of Medicine & Health Sciences by year 2025.
The history of the college begins with establishment of school of medicine in 2004 EC with staffs composed of 2 Ethiopian GPs, one HO and 2 Philippine assistant professors and 78 medical students. In 2006 EC, two departments (Midwifery and Anesthesia) were opened and then named CMHS. The college has now, a total of 115 Academic staffs, and 13 technical staffs. There are about 427 students and within the coming two years the intake capacity of the college is expected to grow. In the year 2009; for the first time the college has graduated a total of 124 students from the 3 disciplines with a majority (60) medical doctors.
With the aim of addressing the Academic, Research and community engagement related activities the college is preparing to open two masters’ programs and four undergraduate programs in the specialty of Neonatal nurse, Psychiatry Nurse, Comprehensive Nurse and Medical Laboratory Technology in 2011. Currently there are 14 Assistant Professor with Internal Medicine, General surgery, Radiology, Gynecology and Obstetrics, Physiology and Anatomy specialties. The college is majorly utilizing Dilchora Referral and Sabian Primary Hospitals for clinical attachments.
