About The Department
Chemistry department was established in 1999 Eth. C. with opening of Dire Dawa University. In 1999, the department began offering a B.Ed. degree in chemistry with the objective of training secondary school chemistry teachers.
As of 2001 Eth. C., the department is offering a B.Sc. degree in Chemistry with its main objective to produce skilled manpower of well-trained chemists capable of taking up positions in the growing demand of industries, economy, and institution of learning, and research of the country.
Prepare knowledgeable, skilled, and attitudinally mature graduate chemists; promote and enhance research focusing on knowledge and technology transfer; design and provide community and consultancy services consistent with the country’s priority needs.
Producing knowledgeable and skilled professional chemists that will be a workforce in the manufacturing industry and service providing enterprises which are qualified in understanding and utilizing appropriate technologies and hence contribute their share in meeting the national vision of ‘alleviating poverty and joining midlevel income earning countries’.
