ICT Week started in Dire Dawa University on October 17/2011. The ICT staffs prepared ICT Week  to introduce different services in the University.  Some of the services that are being introduced in the week are as follows:

Dire Dawa University Web site (www.ddu.edu.et):- this is the official web site that is developed by DDU ICT staffs in the past few months. This is the way that we can introduce our university to the rest of the world. Our students can also able to communicate with DDU and get information while they are both in the compound and outside. For Example in this new academic year students’ dormitory assignment is published by our website. So it highly supports inside or outside communication.

Dire Dawa Univesity ebook (ebooks.ddu.edu.et):- this is a system that enables both the students and instructors to get so many electronic books regarding different subject matters. In the situation where hard copy books are not enough to a certain subject, it is the best way that enables them to get different alternatives which in turn supports the teaching learning process,

MIT Openware mirror site (mit.ddu.edu.et):- this is the new highly supportive system that was deployed by DDU ICT staffs. MIT stands for Massachusetts Institute of Technology which is one of the most known American Technologies of Institute. So MIT Openware mirror site is a system that launched by us with the collaboration of this known American Institute of technology to assist our Institute of Technology enough interactive course material. DDU became MIT OpenCourseWare Mirror-site Program Partner

MIT OCW mirror-site: http://mit.ddu.edu.et

As of September 2011 Dire-Dawa University became MIT OpenCourseWare Program [MIT OCW] Partner and launched MIT OCW Mirror-site on campus accessible at mit.ddu.edu.et.

MIT OpenCourseWare [OCW] makes the materials used in the teaching of almost all of Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s (MIT) undergraduate and graduate subjects available on the Web, free of charge, to any user in the world. With 1,800 courses available, OCW is delivering on the promise of open sharing of knowledge.

The MIT OpenCourseWare Mirror Site Program extends MIT’s open educational reach by providing copies of the OCW website to educational organizations which encounter significant challenges to internet accessibility, inadequate internet infrastructure, or prohibitive internet costs. The program also facilitates continual content updates, so that program partners have access to the latest MIT course materials available.

As part of the Mirror site agreement with MIT, DDU hosted the content of the website on campus and gets update of contents when they available from MIT. The DDU OCW (mit.ddu.edu.et) site is available at DDU campus for all students and staff to access and does not require a connection to the internet as the content is hosted on one of our servers on campus.

Students and staff at DDU, you can access the MIT website by browsing to mit.ddu.edu.et from any of the workstations on campus or laptops connected to the campus wireless or wired network.

The MIT resource is one of the many intranet resources the ICT department is launching the new academic year. Please visit the ICT office or contact ICT staff for more questions or support.
