College of Natural and
Computational Science has been established in 2006 by admitting very few
students in five departments. Accordingly, the College of Natural and
Computational Sciences (CNCS), formerly called Faculty of Science and then
School of Natural and Mathematical Sciences was one of the founding faculties
at the inception of Dire Dawa University College in the spring of 2006.
Currently, the college has reached seven undergraduate (Biology, Chemistry,
Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Sport Sciences and Statistics) and 26
postgraduate programs (26 M.Sc. programs). There are 183 academic Staffs in the
college of which 123 are on duty and the remaining 60 are on study leave. The total
number of students in all modalities is 2989. In addition, summer in undergraduate
and post graduate programs are offered by most of the departments. The college
has developed curricula for several new fields of studies, and has shouldered
the responsibilities of institutional management. Besides the college members
are engaged in researches, and various community services activities.
Thus, to reach the community and tackle the problems, in the College, problem
solving research activities, and need based community services are taking
places.
To enrich the practical skills of our students, the college
also has 12 natural science laboratories (4 Biology, 4 Chemistry and 4 Physics)
and 7 computer laboratories where our students are equipped the necessary skills
that are required for the work force of the country’s development. In addition
the college owns some precious chemical instruments such as HPLC, FTIR, AAS,
UV-Vis used for research and for students’ practical sessions. We have a total
of 28 technical assistants 6 of which are on study leave for their higher
degree and 22 are on duty.
Within all these resources, leadership, and staff commitments
about 3000 students have been enrolled in regular and in-summer undergraduate
and graduate programs. Currently, the college has a running postgraduate
program in Medical Physics, and Mathematics. Three more additional postgraduate
programs in Biology, Chemistry and Statistics are on the final track to be
opened very soon.
Finally, the college would welcome any stakeholder to work
with us on education, research, community and consultancy services or in any
other respects of mutual
collaborations. Hence,
its establishment the college has graduate in all regular and summer in service
programs more than 7000
students and
contribute its role for the development of skilled manpower for the nation.
