The main aim of
the undergraduate degree in psychiatric nursing is to provide an educational
program through which the graduates will be prepared to assume responsibility
in the promotion, prevention, and curative and rehabilitation service to people
as professional psychiatric nurses. It is expected that graduates are capable
of teaching, conducting and
participating in research areas to improve the health service delivery
system.
Specific Objectives
The
program will enable the psychiatric nurse practitioner to:-
Ø Achieve
clinical and therapeutic skills in preventive, curative, Promotive and
rehabilitative health care.
Ø Conduct
clinical assessment; interpret and use it in process of intervention.
Ø Demonstrate
leadership quality, managerial roles, decision-making abilities, inter-personal
relations and communication in various situations
Ø Under take research in their profession which
shall benefit the profession, and the community
Ø Diagnose
and manage psychiatric problems and
refer when needed
Ø Guide,
counsel and teach clients based on the need at all health settings
Ø Applying the nursing process in psychiatric mental
health
