Welcome to the School of Law at Dire Dawa University. We are pleased to welcome you to our academic community and invite you to learn more about our programs, people, achievements, and contributions to legal education and the wider community.
Established in 2001 Ethiopian Calendar, the School of Law has developed a strong national reputation for academic excellence, rigorous standards, practical legal education, and a firm commitment to professionalism and justice.
Our flagship LL.B. program is designed to equip students with the legal knowledge, practical skills, professional values, and ethical foundation necessary to succeed in a dynamic and increasingly complex legal environment.
Alongside classroom instruction, we emphasize experiential learning and community engagement. Through our Free Legal Aid services, the School contributes directly to improving access to justice, particularly for vulnerable and disadvantaged members of society, including women, children, older persons, and persons with disabilities.
At the heart of the School of Law is a dedicated academic community committed to student success and well-being. Our faculty members are accomplished scholars, active researchers, and experienced legal practitioners who bring both academic knowledge and practical legal expertise into the classroom.
Their research addresses pressing legal, institutional, and societal challenges and contributes to the development of law and policy at national, regional, and international levels.
Through Free Legal Aid, moot court competitions, student research, internships, and other practical learning opportunities, our students are encouraged not only to understand the law but also to apply it in addressing real-world challenges.
Our students learn in an environment that promotes intellectual growth, practical experience, professional responsibility, and research engagement.
The achievements of our students are a source of great pride. The School has consistently demonstrated strong performance in national law exit examinations and has established itself as a formidable competitor in national moot court competitions.
Although relatively young, the School of Law has rapidly emerged as a center of excellence in legal education, research, advocacy, and community service.
Over 750 graduates have been produced through 12 graduation rounds, and many of them are making meaningful contributions to the legal profession and public service in Ethiopia and beyond.
We take particular pride in our alumni, who continue to demonstrate competence, integrity, leadership, and a commitment to advancing justice and the rule of law.
Looking ahead, the School is preparing to expand its academic offerings through the introduction of graduate programs. This expansion will further strengthen our teaching, research, and professional development missions and create new opportunities for advanced legal scholarship and specialized training.
We remain committed to building a School of Law that combines academic excellence with practical legal education, research with social relevance, and professional competence with ethical responsibility.
We warmly invite prospective students, scholars, legal professionals, partners, alumni, and members of the wider community to join us in advancing legal education, research, access to justice, and the rule of law.
