About Us

The department has been opened shortly after the establishment of  DDU as one of the second generation universities in the country. During its establishment there were only eight academic staff of which only two were MA degree holders and the rest were at the rank of GAI.  Since then the department has produced a lot of graduates who are serving the country in different sectors. Apart from  producing psychology graduates, the department has also delivered common courses for various departments. Besides, the department has also engaged in various research and community service activities where it tried to play in solving the problems of nearby communities. 

Graduate profiles:

Upon successful completion of the training program, graduate students would be able to;

ü  Provide professional assistance to individuals with personal, social, family , and educational problems

ü  Offer guidance and counseling services to students and other special groups such as street children, people living with HIV/AIDS, displaced individuals, orphans etc.

ü  Provide professional assistance on psychosocial and educational issues to school teachers, managers, administrators, workers in justice system, health professionals and relevant others

ü  Act as a resource person in test development and statistical techniques at the academic and non-academic institutions.

ü  Identify, assess and develop early intervention programs for persons with special needs

ü  Give various psychological trainings at academic and non-academic settings

ü  Help individuals with disabilities to gain optimum vocational adjustment to rehabilitate themselves to fullest physical, mental, social, vocational, and economic usefulness

o   3 years degree

o   180 EtCTS required

o   A minimum CGPA of 2.00 with no “F” required for graduation

o   Admission requirement is based on the criteria set by the department DDU and MoSHE
