About Us
The department of Geography and Environmental Studies – DDU - began training of professionals in three years undergraduate program from the establishment of the university and post graduate professionals since 2018. The department has been implementing harmonized curriculum for its undergraduate students and conventional curriculum for its postgraduate students in light of the current human power requirement in the market and the need of considering environmental issues as the major concern of the department.
Since its establishment the department has contributed several graduates to the market. Based on informal communication it has maintained with its graduates, the department could identify that majority of the graduates are serving the nation in various professions (being employed as teacher in elementary school, high school and universities, as GIS and RS experts, in many governmental and non-governmental institutions, and some of created their own private business). Currently, beside the regular undergraduate program, our department is delivering “Geography of Ethiopia and the horn” which is a common course for all freshman students of the university. In the postgraduate level, we are handling three specializations both in regular and extension programs. Moreover, we are with additional three approved curriculums in a masters level to be effective in the near future.
