Department Objectives

The main goal of English language and literature department to endeavor to be the leading resource centre in the university geared to apply scientific knowledge with English language, literature, linguistics, and journalism towards a fruitful communication on development,  science and technology transfer in Ethiopia.

Program objectives

The general objective of the program is to train English language professionals for various competencies and occupational purposes. More specifically, the department aspires:

ü  to equip students with basic English language skills and knowledge needed for a variouspurposes;

ü  to equip students with knowledge of how human language functions or the scientificstudy of language;

ü  to enable students appreciate and criticize literary works;

ü  to enable students to conduct research in their field of study;

ü  to equip students with communication and public relation skills as well as media use;

ü  to enable students translate and interpret various discourses.
