Candidates must
be a natural science student in preparatory classes and fulfill the following
criteria;

Upon completion
of the BSC psychiatry program, the graduates will be able to:-
Ø Provide
basic physical care for mentally ill patients with self-care deficit and
altered physiologic functions in any clinical set up
Ø Use
critical thinking ( collect and analyze relevant data, establish priorities,
make appropriate decision for implementation and evaluate achievements)
Ø Communicate
effectively (includes individual , family and communities interaction, written documentation and record
keeping, formal and technical writing)
Ø Use
the nursing process as a frame work for psychiatric nursing care practice for
individual, families and community mental health needs
Ø Apply
professional, ethical and legal principles as well as evidence based practice
in providing care to mentally ill patients clients
Ø Guide,
counsel and teach clients based on the need at all health settings
Ø Demonstrate
leadership and management skill in all work settings
Ø Function
as a leader and change agent concerning standards and quality of psychiatric
nursing in the nation
Ø Actively
participate in the promotion, prevention and rehabilitation program at the community at large
Ø Function
effectively as a member of primary/ community mental health care team
Ø Diagnose
and manage common psychiatric problems
and refer when needed
Ø Promote
planned change to improve health care delivery system in any setting
Ø Conduct
and participate need based research on the identified problems and utilize the
research findings as evidence based to improve the quality of care provided to
clients
Ø Demonstrate
awareness of own values and beliefs and respect for the right and belief of
others, appreciate the importance of cultural influences on life style and
health practices
Ø Participate
in the development of nursing curriculum including design, implementation and
evaluation process for curriculum change as a whole and in a specific courses
Ø Apply
all the different methodological skills and teaching aids in the
teaching-learning process and evaluation techniques in the teaching institution
Ø Demonstrate
the need for continuing learning for professional and personal enrichment
Ø Collect,
document, process, analyze, and disseminate mental health information

Working
with other health science departments and the administrative health bureau and
health facilities within Dire Dawa administration
·
Giving
service for mission charity and other persons who are in need of our service
and etc
· Research
Different Seminars and projects on different areas within the profession
