The College of Business and
Economics at Dire Dawa University Established in 2007 as a founding faculty of
Dire Dawa University, the College of Business and Economics plays a crucial
role in developing a skilled workforce for Ethiopia. Aligned with the Ministry
of Education's classification of Dire Dawa University as an Applied Science
University with a focus on Business and Economics, and Technology, the college
is committed to delivering quality education and teaching.
Since its inception, the college
has significantly expanded its academic offerings and faculty. Currently, it
provides:
Undergraduate Programs: Seven regular,
five continuing and distance education, and two summer programs in fields such
as Accounting and Finance, Banking and Finance, Economics, Logistics and Supply
Chain Management, Management, Marketing Management, and Public Administration
and Development Management.
Graduate Programs: Six Master's Degree programs with ten
specializations, including Development Economics, Environmental and Natural
Resource Economics, Master of Business Administration, Master of Public
Management and Policy (with specializations in Development Management, Public
Policy and Governance), Accounting & Finance, Logistics and Supply Chain
Management, and Marketing Management. The college caters to the educational
needs of approximately 3,500 students across regular, continuing, and distance
education modalities.
The college has experienced
substantial growth in faculty, increasing from 22 Graduate Assistant I
positions in 2007 to 136 active staff members in 2024/25, encompassing PhD holders,
Associate Professor, Assistant Professors, and Lecturers.
Beyond education, the college
actively engages in research and community service. Research activities are
expanding, with collaborations with various organizations. The college also
provides diverse training programs to stakeholders in areas such as Leadership,
Financial Management, Entrepreneurship, Project Management, International
Financial Reporting Standards, Accounting Software, Customer Service, Record
Management, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, and Office Management.
