Dire Dawa University and U.S. Embassy Engage in Dialogue on Higher Education Internationalization

Dire Dawa University’s top leadership held a high-level meeting with representatives from the U.S. Embassy to discuss the advancement of internationalization in higher education and strategies for institutional autonomy.

The U.S. Embassy delegation, led by Mr. Ryan Bradeen, Public Diplomacy Officer a, engaged in discussions with university top officials on ongoing and future efforts to broaden the institution’s global engagement. Mr. Bradeen commended Dire Dawa University for its ongoing strides in internationalizing academic and research collaborations and underscored the importance of sustaining and expanding these efforts.

In addition to highlighting the university’s progress, Mr. Bradeen emphasized the need to enhance work toward achieving institutional autonomy. He stressed the importance of learning from both domestic and international best practices to build strong systems and operational frameworks that support autonomous university governance.

The University President, Dr. Ubah Adem expressed her appreciation for the consistent support provided by the U.S. Embassy, citing access to U.S. government exchange programs such as the Learning Management and Growth (LMG), the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP), and various leadership development initiatives. She also recognized the contributions of embassy-supported fellows under programs like the Ambassador’s Distinguished Scholar Program (ADSP), the English Language Improvement Program (ELIP), and multiple cohorts of Access English scholarships.

Dr. Ubah highlighted the significant impact these engagements have had on both the university and the  community and reaffirmed the university’s commitment to deepening internationalization and pursuing  autonomy.

In conclusion, Mr. Bradeen reiterated the U.S. Embassy’s continued commitment to supporting Dire Dawa University’s internationalization goals and institutional development.
