Dire Dawa University signed MoU with anchor consulting and traning

Dire Dawa University (DDU) is actively working to build partnerships with a range of stakeholders including private companies. As part of this effort, the university has been identifying and engaging with various companies to collaborate on problem-solving initiatives. In line with this mission, DDU has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Anchor Consulting Firm.

The partnership will focus on the textile and garment sector, specifically on recycling used clothing and transforming it into new garments, fabrics, and threads. This initiative aims to address the growing environmental issue posed by discarded clothing.

Dr. Ubah Adem, President of Dire Dawa University, stated, “This is a new initiative focused on tackling the environmental problem caused by discarded clothes. As a member of the Climate Forum in Ethiopia, the university is committed to environmental protection, and this project will strengthen our efforts in that area.”

Dr. Ubah also emphasized the business potential of the collaboration, saying, “Anchor Consulting brings significant expertise in business development projects. Beyond environmental impact, this initiative will create job opportunities for youth. We must go beyond simply signing agreements and take real action.”

Wondiye Tadesse, Founder and CEO of Anchor Consulting, expressed his appreciation for the partnership, noting, “We’re grateful to the university for making this collaboration possible. There’s a huge amount of discarded clothing in the city, and its impact is visible. This project offers two major benefits: it supports both community and governmental environmental conservation efforts while also boosting business and youth employment.”

Tewodros Gedefaye, Scientific Director of the Institute of Technology (IoT) at DDU, discussed the development of the project and the preliminary work undertaken by his office before the MoU was signed. He noted that task forces made up of textile and related industry experts have already been established to lead the implementation phase.
