The training, which took place from March 3 to 5, 2025, was organized by the Strategic Partnership and Research Internationalization Directorate in partnership with the College of Business and Economics at Dire Dawa University.
The training aimed at enhancing the skills of university staff in writing competitive grant proposals for European Union (EU) projects and managing these projects under EU regulations. The program attracted participants from all colleges and institutes within the university.
Key topics covered during the training included:
1. EU Funding Opportunities for Higher Education, including the Jean Monnet Programme, joint master’s programs, and Capacity Building in Higher Education (CBHE).
2. Writing a Competitive Capacity Building Proposal.
3. Project Cycle Management (PCM) for EU projects.
4. A Practical Workshop & Case Studies, focusing on developing project concepts and reviewing successful EU-funded projects.
5. European Union and Africa Priorities.
The training was delivered by two renowned experts from the University of Pavia: Professor Maria Sassi, an expert in Agricultural Economics, and Professor Gian Battista Parigi, a specialist in Pediatric Surgery. Both professors are highly experienced in international cooperation, with Professor Sassi serving as the local Director of the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master in Global Development Policies, Vice-President of CICOPS, and Country Director of EADI.
Professor Parigi is the Rector’s Delegate for International Cooperation and former Italian Universities representative at the National Council for International Cooperation, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Rome.
The two professors are here under the staff mobility program that Dire Dawa University and University of Pavia are working together.
